How We Score AI Tools — Our Transparent Ranking Method

Every tool on AI Got Ranked is scored on six weighted metrics with a public formula and zero paid placements. Here is exactly how it works.

Most AI tool directories rank tools by whoever paid the most, or by a vague "popularity" number you can't inspect. We do the opposite. Every tool on AI Got Ranked is scored the same way, with a formula anyone can read, and no tool can buy a higher position. This post explains exactly how a tool earns its score.

The six metrics

Instead of a single mystery number, each tool is rated on six dimensions that measure genuinely different things:

  • Usefulness — how much real-world problem-solving power the tool has.
  • Quality — the craft and accuracy of its output.
  • Ease of use — onboarding and day-to-day user experience.
  • Value — what you get for the price.
  • Reliability — uptime, consistency, and trustworthiness.
  • Popularity — how widely known and adopted the tool actually is.

Scoring six separate dimensions is what lets you do things no other directory allows — like sorting the rankings by "easiest to use" or "best value" instead of one blended number.

How the overall score is calculated

The six metrics are combined with fixed weights into a single 0–10 overall score. The weights never change per tool, so two tools with identical metrics always get identical scores. You can read the full breakdown on our methodology page.

We deliberately keep the distribution honest: most solid tools land between 5.0 and 7.5, and only proven category leaders earn 8.5+. If everything scored a 9, the ranking would be meaningless.

What "no paid placements" really means

Tools can pay to be featured (clearly labeled as such), but paying never changes a tool's score or its position in the rankings. A sponsored tool and a free listing are scored by the exact same formula. That separation is the whole point of the site.

Why this matters

When you're choosing an AI tool, you're trusting a recommendation. A recommendation you can't audit isn't worth much. By publishing our metrics, our weights, and our refusal to sell rankings, the goal is simple: give you data you can actually trust.
